What Powers the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?
Two potent engines are available for the 2021 Grand Cherokee L. The standard engine is a 3.6L V6 engine that cranks out 290 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque. When equipped with a tow package, Grand Cherokee L’s equipped with the V6 can tow up to 6,200lbs. That’s most likely enough power to handle everything you need a vehicle to handle. But if you need more go, you can get a whole lot from the 5.7L V8 engine. This available option rips out 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque and can tow up to 7,200lbs when properly equipped! Both Grand Cherokee L engine options are mated to a flawless TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. Both engines are eligible for one of three different four-wheel-drive systems, Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with an Electronic Limited Slip Differential.
What Can You Tell Me About the Capability of the Grand Cherokee L?
This is a really great question because there’s a lot to say! The Grand Cherokee L’s “go anywhere, do anything” capability starts at the drivetrain. Three four-wheel-drive systems are available for the 2021 Grand Cherokee L, each one offering Jeep’s world-renowned capability. Quadra-Trac I is a full-time 4WD system with no need to flip a switch or pull a lever that makes use of a single-speed transfer case and a network of sensors. These sensors detect wheel slippage as it happens and instantly redistributes up to 100% of available torque to the axle with the most traction to counteract the slippage. Quadra-Trac II operates similarly but uses a two-speed transfer case. Quadra-Trac II also utilizes Active 4-Low Torque Control with a 2.72: gear ratio to provide maximum crawling ability. Quadra-Drive II also uses a two-speed transfer case connected to an Electronic Limited Slip Rear Differential to provide unparalleled off-road capability. Quadra-Drive II can predict wheel spin and smoothly distribute torque to the wheels with the most grip to limit or even eliminate slippage. The Grand Cherokee L can also be had with Quadra-Lift air suspension for a smooth ride and five manually or automatically adjustable height settings: Normal Ride Height, Off-Road 1, Off-Road 2, Park mode, and Aero mode. These four-corner air springs provide 3.6 inches of lift span and can go from as low as 6.4 inches in park mode to 10 inches in Aero mode. Also available is Jeep’s Selec-Terrain Traction Management System with Auto, Sport, Snow, Rock, and Sand/Mud modes for unbeatable traction no matter where you take the Grand Cherokee L!
What About Safety Features?
It’s not all power and all-terrain capability with the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. It actually comes with over 110 advanced safety features! They say it’s what’s on the inside that counts, so let’s start at the Grand Cherokee L’s high-strength steel frame. Jeep designed it to withstand impact and direct crash energy away from the cabin, keeping you and your passengers safe. All-around protection is improved by front airbags, driver and passenger side and knee airbags, and three-row side curtain airbags. Now, back to those advanced safety features. The safety features start with the usual suspects, blindspot monitoring, rear-cross traffic detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, full-speed forward collision mitigation, and more. But it gets even better! Available exclusively on the Grand Cherokee L is optional driver aids like a surround-view birds-eye camera, hands-free park assist, drowsy driver detection, a night vision camera, and a head-up display.
